More flags are flying today, waving their annual pleas to honor the ultimate sacrifice too many faceless soldiers have made in defense of our country.
Faceless, only to some.
For those who have lost a loved one in service to our country, their soldier’s face is forever burned into their psyche, the impression left in the bed forever carved into the fabric of their daily life.
And so today, amidst the beer and charcoal and smartphones, let’s not only remember those soldiers we lost.
Let’s also reach out in comfort and compassion to those who did the losing, for whom this day is less about the unofficial start to summer, and more a stark reminder of the space left behind.
